Keyboard player, songwriter, arranger.
Got her first instrument, an accordeon, at the age of four.
At seven she started playing the piano. Being a jazz freak she got her first band together from the US with four black female jazz musicians touring in Sweden for six months already in the sixties.
Left the jazz scene and found her real big ”love” the Hammond organ and got her band Meritones together. She recorded her first album with Meritones in 1967.
In the beginning of the seventies Swedish folk music entered her life which resulted in three gold discs ”Huvva”, ”Trollskog” and ”Bergtagen”. She also at this time recorded a double album together with the poet Beppe Wolgers. Together with two fiddlers and a rhythm section she was touring all over Sweden with this quite new concept and made great success.
Later on exploring other musical fields, playing with different artists, writing and co-writing songs.
A compilation album from the seventies ”Merit – Queen of Swedish Hammond Folk Groove” was released in 2005, and her latest album ”Touch” in 2006.
She is now recording a new album principally based on her personal interpretations of Swedish folk songs. The recording is taking place in Visby, the old Hanseatic town in Gotland, where she lives today.
Merit has made around twenty albums altogether.
